Mad Men Yourself!

Somehow, this past month and a half, I managed to watch all four seasons of Mad Men. I guess that's not hard to do when you get a little over two weeks vacation for the holidays. I have every intention of doing a post on that later. . .

Mad Men. . .this show is fantastic! The props, the costumes, the acting. Oh, how I would love to dress the way they did for a week. . ok maybe forever! The women are all so chic! I've been sick the past couple of days so I finished season four in time for the new season in March. . . I can't wait! I won't say what I want to happen because I know some people may want to start the series. However, I will say, "Don Draper, you are not my favorite person." Oh, and I very much dislike Pete Campell (he reminds me of someone to be left unnamed).

This evening, I did what any sensible person would do and I 'Mad Men-ed Ourselves'. It was actually quite fun. . .as you can see, like always, Steven has a Dr. Pepper in-hand and I have nothing, because I don't drink martinis and I don't smoke cigs :)

P.S. - I think I picked the perfect mouth for Steven, because he rarely smiles in photos, and this "avatar smile" is very similar to this picture here!

This year, I decided to go with Vistaprint after I found a deal on Groupon that couldn't be beat! I'm pretty happy with them. . .they are fun and whimsical and not super traditional. . .a little different than what I normally go for! I chose a photo that was one of the biggest highlights of our year! Unfortunately, Bear did not make the cut, but we still love her immensely!

I love the song "Northern Lights" featured on the Breaking Dawn Soundtrack. It's my favorite song on there and it's during a super cute scene, but I won't go on about my love for all things Twilight . . . it might throw Steven into therapy so I'll just keep it to myself.

Anyways, Cider Sky just posted this Christmas Song to their Facebook page and so I thought I'd share! So good!

I love how these two matched. . . and Jason's hair!! I could go on and on! He looked like a Lester and the best part is when we walked into the party he goes, "What? You mean nobody brought their kids?!" Eww!! That brother of Steven; he is a witty one!

When we were voting for the ugliest sweater, I heard a girl exclaim, "His hair is just so creepy!" Needless, to say, he did not win but was pretty close!

Have you ever watched a TV show or a movie, where the family sits around the table and goes from each family member to the next; rambling off their Highs and Lows?

Well, now I understand why. . .

My 14x20 pillow insert arrived today, thus completing my solid navy, trellis, and floral combination. . . making me a very happy girl! Thanks to the talent of Cailtin Wilson Textiles!

**Als0, I enjoyed an evening with the ladies from Book Club where we gossiped, ate delicious Panera, exchanged gifts, and gossiped some more!

My Low. . .

As you can see the damage was minor. However, I've cried off and on all evening because it was my fault and I feel so idiotic. Apparently, getting excited about my anticipated 2 week break and a brief looking down, resulted in this fiasco. I am grateful that no one was injured and that my airbags did not go off. In the meantime, I guess I'll have to live with these cosmetic imperfections.

FYI - the front license plate is damaged due to the lovely car washes down here and will be repaired with my recent purchase of a vanity plate cover/frame!

This year, everything we want and/or need for Christmas, is stuff for the house. When we bought the house, we installed a microwave/hood that would go with our future kitchen appliances. Well . . .they came sooner than expected due to the crazy/good deals at Lowe's. So, it was decided that these would be our Christmas presents to each other!

I guess this means that I need to get serious about cooking!

It's Been 10 Years. . .

. . .Since I graduated high school! I can't even believe it! Life seems to fly by once you walk onto that stage and are given that diploma. This weekend, my graduating class is celebrating our 10-year reunion, and unfortunately; I won't be able to make it. We're going back to Rockford right before Christmas, so in order to be more economical, and to get more stuff done around our new house; I won't be heading back to my homeland.

I thought it would be appropriate to head down memory lane and revisit my high school days!

I wore a uniform for 4 years. . .yep! Catholic School!

I learned a lot . . . looking back, I would have to say French class was my favorite. Same teacher all four years, so I felt like I was at home each new school year!

Had some great times, with some really great friends!

. . .and Graduated!

Here's to wishing Boylan High School Class of 2001 a fantastic reunion! Wishing that I could be there!

Anniversary Weekend Celebration

We celebrated our Anniversary on Saturday which was our actual date! We started with dinner at Mon Ami Gabi which is a delicious French restaurant located at the Paris. I'm not much of a meat eater, but I ordered the Filet Mignon au Poivre and it was amazing! Steven mentioned that the French know a thing or two about flavor. I think this restaurant held true to that!

Then we walked the two miles over to the Mandalay Bay for the Lion King. I think it's one of the best shows that I've seen down here! The costumes, the movement, and the acting were spectacular!

It was a great celebration of 6 years!

Remember when you were growing up and had "Picture Day"?! Well, somehow I've reverted back to those days. . .

This seriously cracks me up that I still get these envelopes filled with multiple copies. . . of different sizes. . .of the same picture. You know what I'm talking about. That dreaded day, when you got your envelope back. . . worried about the results and if anyone might have gotten a peek before you.

Last year, when I gave my Mom a copy of my school picture, she eagerly changed out my Junior year photo to my then 27-year-old "I'm an elementary school staff member" picture. I think it took her down memory lane!

Growing up, I had to wear my hair down, and always wore something nice; but completely uncomfortable (high school uniform included!). Maybe I'm the one going down memory lane. . .

Weekend Projects around the House

I made a Facebook post last weekend stating that we will probably be at Lowes every weekend for the next few months. So far, that's held true. We've been the last 3 Saturdays and already have plans for this next weekend. Our home was move in ready. . .well besides the disgusting/peeling linoleum floors, but we really want to make it our own and that's going to take A LOT of work!

Weekend project constructed by my Father-in-Law and Steven in order to appease my OCD/neurotic mind for things to be organized. Steven said that this would probably only make me happy for 15 minutes and then something else would probably come up. I hate it that he is almost always right! No, I am very grateful for all of the things that are coming along. . .I just also happen to be the world's most impatient person. My family will attest to that!

Big thanks to my Father-in-Law for taking some time on his Saturday to help us out!

I, on the other hand, did my usual unpacking/washing/organizing. All of which I hate to do but has to be done right!

To use my new pan! Yes, Pinterest works! I caved in and bought it! I knew it would be something I'd use a lot for parties and favors. The scalloped edges make them so dainty!

I became obsessed with these fluffy/buttery little treats while in France back in April, and just knew that I would have to learn how to make them!

While dragging my garbage can back to it's spot, I had the opportunity to meet my neighbors and their cute kids! Turns out that they will be in our ward! She is a teacher for the District and he is a French Pastry chef at Bouchon Bakery located in the Venetian.

I expressed my love of pastries. . .French, of course. . .and later this evening; he stopped by with all of this deliciousness! Seriously, so kind and so very generous! How did we get so lucky?!!

Here is a peek at our master bedroom. It is the only room that is somewhat done. I love how it's turning out though! I'm posting this picture to remind myself that things will eventually get into place and be how I'd like for them to be. All this moving, cleaning, and organizing stuff is exhausting! We've worked on various things all weekend. . .and I barely feel like I made a dent in any of it!

I hope! Eek! How did I get to this age?! 27 didn't sound that bad, but 28 sounds old! To think that I'm closer to my 30s than my early twenties. . .kind of freaks me out!

We celebrated this weekend with dinner at Sushi Fever. . . best sushi in town; hands down! Sounds so good, I could eat a Spider Roll right now! And my birthday gift was . . . . .a house!!! We closed Thursday and got our keys Friday night! Now for endless hours of cleaning, unpacking, and various home projects!

It's officially Fall and I'm dreaming of being here. . .

. . . but I don't know if that's entirely realistic!!! Oh, how I dream of a Fall Saturday here!!! For those of you who are just minutes away. . .don't take this for granted!

So. . .In order for Vegas to feel a bit more Fall-like, despite the 98 degree weather. . . I'm burning my favorite scents from Bath and Body Works. . .

. . . and baking delicious Pumpkin Bread!!!!

Makes two 8 x 4-inch loaves

1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon ground cloves

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup butter softened

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

2 eggs

1 cup canned solid pumpkin

Preheat the oven to 375 F. Grease two 8 by 4-inch loaf pans. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, ground cloves, and baking soda and set aside. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the water, eggs, and pumpkin and blend well. Slowly add the pumpkin mixture to the dry ingredients and blend well. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

If making one larger loaf, bake for 48 to 60 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.

I think it's a pretty cute alternative to the look I'm going for in our master bath and bedroom. Can't wait for all white textiles in these two rooms! I'm hoping for a clean look throughout the house! Hopefully it all comes together. . . or rather. . . hopefully we close early next week! Fingers crossed!

I haven't posted in a couple of weeks. . .and that is probably due to a number of things. . .

1. I went back to work. Yes, summer break is over so it's back to school! New school is good, there are just a lot of things that are different. Even though it's the same position. . . I feel like it's an entirely different job. I'm tired at night because I'm still getting used to things. It's change and I have a hard time with change.

2. I'm addicted to Grey's Anatomy. It's all I do, and is all I think about when I am not watching it! I can thank my sister-in-law-Megan for this addiction, because she HAD to watch a few episodes while she was here last time; which then made me realize what I was missing out on again! So I started off where I left off (season 4) and am determined to be finished for the season 8 premier at the end of this month!

3. We have been house hunting again and found the perfect little house! We are in love! We were nervous that it was going to be super competitive and that our offer wouldn't be accepted, but we found out on Friday that the bank accepted our offer! We are shooting to close on the 28th of this month. Yipee!! I'll post pictures after we close, just in case we jinx ourselves!

My parents leave for France tomorrow. . .I am. . .SUPER jealous!

Steven told me that he wanted some motivational posters for his classroom. . .motivational posters = cheesy! Ahhh, especially in the work place. . .but that's a different story!! Don't get me wrong, I think youngsters need all the motivation that they can get, but I had a better option! Instead of buying posters, I had Steven chose a couple of quotes that I already had printed on a velum notepad; I scrapbooked, framed them, and Voila! Best part was that we got the frames for a dollar each! Definitely something simple and cute to put in his new classroom!

I have been selfish lately. There I said it. I have been in this funk for months; pitying myself over "this isn't happening for me..." or "I don't have this..." or "I will be happy when...". When in fact, I have a lot to be grateful for. It's a lot of selfishness that is plaguing my thoughts and actions.

The realization of "I can choose to be happy, no matter what the circumstances..." has finally started to sink in after months of sulking. I am trying to learn new things, find creative outlets, spend my time wisely, and learn from others.

There is a lot that can be learned from others, which is why, I thought I would share this sweet family's story.

A few years back, she introduced me to Nars Bronzing Powder in Laguna and I've bought it ever since! Just recently, I've started using their Blush in Orgasm (I believe it was on Allure and Instyle's best buys). . . I know the name is a little !!! but maybe that's the look that their going for?! I don't know. . .awkward. . .I'll stop. I love it though! Back to School, Back to School. . .

I'm officially a week away from going back to work and to be honest, I'm pretty excited! I will be at a new school this year, however; so I will have to get used to a new school, new staff, and new library! This change comes with some mixed emotions, because I really liked the school and the people that I worked with last year. Unfortunately, my hours and pay were being cut due to the loss of Title 1 funding at the school, so I thought it would be best to change schools.

On another note, I feel like a kid again! I got to shop at the "Back to School" section and found myself this little gem. . . $8.97 or something like that at Walmart. . .for the record I hate Walmart but couldn't pass up on it's cuteness and price! Fancier way to pack your own lunch; sure beats the brown bag!

Also, I happen to think that working with kids is the greatest job on Earth! You often are shown love and appreciation by little tokens like these . . .

Melted my heart! This little guy was so excited to give this to me . . .definitely something I'll treasure forever!

California Weekend!

We had a wonderful little getaway to Southern California this weekend! My Dad called me on Tuesday, letting us know that he was flying out the following day; and suggested that we make the drive down there to hang out with him and the rest of the Holden clan, who reside in California. I'm glad we did . . .it was another nice break from the heat and some quality time well spent with my Dad!

We did a lot of relaxing, barbecuing, and visiting with family. Saturday, we got the opportunity to soak in the California sun and scenery by biking down one of the trails in Newbury Park. It was an exciting ride (minus my flat tire) that ended in a nice little picnic on the beach! I love time spent with my Dad, he is always up for some kind of adventure and sees to it that everyone is having a good time!

Break from the Heat

Europeans love nature . . . just as they should; they have beautiful scenery over there! So, Sunday afternoon, we decided to head up to the Nevada mountains and take a nice little break from the scorching Vegas heat! I had never been up to Mount Charleston, and so when we arrived; it was so much more than I imagined it to be. I think my cousins may even have been a bit shocked that this desert could actually be green! We enjoyed a nice little picnic and took a quick hike up Cathedral Rock. It made for a wonderful Sunday afternoon!

WEEZER

I'm posting earlier than I thought I would; Steven is at the Strip with Quentin and Sarah. I would have gone too, but I bruised my tailbone on a wave that we hit hard while boating at Lake Mead. Sounds pathetic, but seriously, I've never experienced pain like that! I must have not been sitting on the boat properly! Needless to say, I can barely walk. So, I thought I would post about Weezer - pool-side - at Red Rock. So much fun! I love Weezer and I love that they played so much of their old stuff! I was also pleasantly surprised at their renditions of Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" and Radiohead's "Paranoid Android" both of whom I love! The only drawback. . . was the crowd! Were they seriously too messed up to realize that Weezer was performing?! Show more love . . . they were amazing!!!

Cousin Time

Yesterday, my cousins Sarah and Quentin came into town! They have been in the States visiting their brother and sister-in-law who live in Seattle; and finally got to meet their new little nephew, Austin! We're excited to have them here and show them around this crazy town! I don't know how much blogging I'll be doing, because we're staying at my mother-in-law's house, and also because I feel bad taking time away from them! I should be back in a week or so!

**On another note, it's crazy that I have less than a month until I go back to work! Crazy how fast this summer has gone by! It feels like we just got out for the summer and I felt like I had years before I had to go back! I'm kind of excited to go back, though. . .I definitely like a set schedule and I miss working with the kiddos!

Today celebrates my parents' 30th wedding anniversary! They were married on July 31, 1981 in the Los Angeles, California Temple. Seriously, what a milestone! After all these years, my Dad tells my Mom, "I should have married you sooner." How sweet is that?! Thank you Mom and Dad for being such a great example of marriage; among many other things! You two are the best!

Summer Favorites

This summer, I've had a few go-to items that have made my summer that much brighter! These aren't in any particular order . . . they are just a few of the things that I have been loving!

1. Bath & Body Works Candle in Island Nectar. . .

I actually love a lot of their candles . . . this one just happens to be my favorite summer scent!

2. EOS Shave Cream. . .

Best Shave Cream - hands down! Leaves your skin silky-smooth and can be used wet or dry. I've used the pomegranate-raspberry and vanilla bliss. . .both smell great! As long as they make this, I don't think I'll ever use another another shave gel or cream!

3. Hempz Touch of Summer. . .

I use this on those days where I don't have a chance to go to the pool! For some reason, summer makes me feel like I need to be tan; no excuses! This is by far the best smelling gradual-tan moisturizer. It's a bit more pricey than Jergans or Oil of Olay, but those make me sick at the smell of them!

4. Essie Nail Polish. . .

I've said it before, and I'll say it again . . . "I love Essie nail polish!" I used to be an OPI girl, but I think I've converted over to Essie. I think it has something to do with the consistency and application; it just seems better to me! I tend to do brighter colors during the summer months and leave the darks for fall and winter.

5. Sonic Cherry Limeades. . .

Something about this beverage screams SUMMER to me! I love them; especially in this Las Vegas heat! I crave them every few days, so I make sure I get them during happy hour when they are half off! The other day, I lucked out, and got a token for a free medium-sized one on my next visit. It was like gold in my hands!

This past weekend I received disks from our photographer of our wedding photos. We have been married since November 2005 mind you . . . so almost 6 years! I had been meaning to contact him over the years, and then finally this past month I did! So now I can digital scrapbook my heart out! Speaking of. . .I want to make at least one very nice one. . .like professional quality, flush mount album style. . .anyone know of any places that offer this type of thing for consumers and not just professional photographers? I like my Shutterfly book that I made for our France trip, but I would like something a bit higher quality!

We all know how much I love celebrities, in fact, Steven always tells people that if there is one thing that I know everything about. . . it's celebrities. However, I feel that this one actually deserves celebrity status! She is classy, poised, educated, unpretentious, AND has a beautiful marriage. I love Kate Middleton! I also could not help but notice how, on so many occasions. . . she is actually wearing stuff that I could wear! I love that the cameras love her too, due to the fact that I can see what ensemble she is pulling off for her various engagements. Does she not get prettier by the day?! Here are just a few of my favorites. . .

Water for Elephants

One of the best things that I've done since we moved down to Vegas, is join a book club. I secretly have always wanted to be in a book club. . .I love to socialize and mingle (which we do a lot of). . . so when some of the girls at work approached me about joining. . .I was all for it! I got to pick the book for the month of July so, I chose a book that I had heard good things about and has a movie that I'm dying to see but won't watch until I read the book! I chose Water for Elephants. Overall, it was a good book. I wouldn't say it's one of the best I've ever read, but definitely kept me entertained! A little racy at times (sorry book club girls if I offended anyone in my selection!) but had a creative plot. I loved the story's characters. . . especially the book's protagonist! I really appreciated the author's extensive research to make this story as if it were something that really could have taken place in the history of circuses in America. Made me a little depressed about the whole concept of aging though . . . I don't look forward to that! Anyone else read this book? What did you think?

Little Brother Visits!

I'm sad. . .we dropped my brother off at McCarren Airport this afternoon! His 10-day trip to Vegas came to an end! I already really miss him; we've seen him everyday since the 1st of this month. It's been fun! Although, it's really tough keeping up with 21-year-olds! We did A LOT. . . he volunteered at a Hoops for Hope event, we went boating, Black Jack (shhh, don't tell my Mom!), midnight bowling, Bingo, saw a few movies, shopped at the outlets (we have GOOD outlets!), went swimming at Wet Republic (can we say daytime club with swimsuits on?!), ate delicious food, the boys golfed, we walked the strip, and we all played some more Black Jack! It was so fun having him here. . .I know he had a hard time leaving and we had a hard time saying goodbye!

Overall, Christopher loved Vegas . . .and Vegas loved him! We didn't get to take many pictures; we were too busy having fun!

Chicago

You would think that after being married for 5+ years; that we would have toured Chicago at least once?! I mean it is the biggest city closest to my hometown and it's only 1 1/2 hours away from home! But no. . .I mean, yes, we fly into Chicago 98% of the time we go back to see my family and we've been to both a Cubs game and Bulls game. . . but really go out walking and tour all of Chicago's sights?! No!!! This was our first time, or rather, Steven's first time. We had time to kill before our 9:50pm flight. . .so we made an afternoon and evening of it! We saw all of Chicago's usual sights (I had never seen the Bean in real life--it's much bigger in person!) and made sure that we left Illinois with Chicago's finest. . .Lou Malnati's for Pizza! Amazing way to end our trip back home!!! Also, I love love love Chicago. . .it's like a mini New York and sometimes I think that I could be a real city girl!

Nauvoo & Carthage Jail

Our day in Nauvoo and Carthage was great! I could have done without the humidity. . .but it was great! I hadn't been back since 2003 and because it was Steven's first time. . .it made it that much better! Going to Nauvoo really makes you see all the dedication and sacrifice that was made in the early church; a lot of which is very humbling!

Monday evening, we arrived in Nauvoo, IL, grabbed some dinner, and headed down to the Nauvoo temple grounds; just as the sun was setting over the Mississippi! Seriously, what a sight! This was Steven's first time visiting Nauvoo, and being the History lover that he is, I was excited to be there with him to experience it! As we were approaching the temple, he said to me, "Didn't we consider getting married here?" And I said, "Yes, but remember we were worried that it would be too cold in November?!" Then he said, "Can we have a do over?!" Haha! I really love this temple so much! It means a lot to me. This may sound silly, but when I was younger, I knew that I would see the Nauvoo temple rebuilt in my lifetime. When they made the announcement that it was to be rebuilt, I was not at all shocked but really excited! I'm just surprised that it happened when I was only 18!

Dixon, IL

Sunday evening, my family decided that we would head down to Nauvoo, IL for a couple of days. Nauvoo is about four hours southwest of Rockford, so we packed our stuff and headed down the following morning! On our way down to the western part of the state, we stopped in Dixon, IL. Dixon is a small town that takes it's pride in being Ronald Reagan's hometown during his youth. Not to get political, but I would take pride in it too! I happen to think that Reagan was a great president and did many wonderful things for our country and the world. I also think, that Nancy and Ronald were one of the classiest couples and had a deep love for each other. You can just see it in their photos taken together. I decided on this quick trip that I Love You, Ronnie is on my list of books to read. Side Note - my great grandfather Cliff Enger knew Reagan when he was an actor way back in the day! My Dad's parents currently have the picture that he signed "To My Dear Friend Cliff". . .I think it's pretty neat! The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is also minutes from their home and my aunt's home in Simi Valley, CA.

While in Dixon, we got to see a piece of the Berlin Wall that stands in the middle of town and were able to tour President Reagan's boyhood home. Some really big history in such a small town!

Monday morning, while at my parents' house, we woke up to this. . . Damage, trees uprooted, and power outages all over town!

We were all forced down to the basement because of scary winds and thunder! Steven said that he wanted to be in a tornado while in Illinois, and he basically got his wish! FYI - he was probably the most scared out of all of us! You can read more about Monday's storm here. It brought me back to summer 2003, when we had the same thing happen and we were out of power for 3 days! Made for a hot and miserable few days!!!

Yay! It's France's Bastille Day today! Like I said before, I think it's fun that I have two countries to celebrate! I told Steven that at the very least, chocolate croissants were a must! I had every intention of making Croque Monsieur, but we just have too much going on today. . .we are back from our two weeks in Illinois. The last few days were crazy-packed . . . hence why, I haven't done much blogging, but I do have a lot of things and places we've been to catch up on! My brother, Christopher and his friend, Michael, came back to Vegas with us so we are looking forward to enjoying Vegas with them! They both just recently turned 21, so naturally, they think they're in Heaven. It cracks me up how crazy-excited people get about Vegas, when to us, it's home!

On Saturday, Steven and I got to meet up with one of my best friends. . . Stephanie! She, her husband Adam, and adorable little boy Noah, were in town visiting her parents. I know. . . we have the same name, but I never really think of us as having the same name. . . maybe because we look so different, I don't know?! Stephanie and I have been friends since our Freshman year in high school and have remained close ever since! Stephanie is a great friend, someone whose opinion I have always valued, and strong woman in general! She and Steven are a lot alike, so I think that it's safe to say that I am consistent in my choice of close friends! I don't think there is anything that this woman can't do or endure! Should I also mention that she is the cutest pregnant woman ever?! Makes me sick! Stephanie and Adam - it was good seeing you for a couple of hours, but we expect a visit in Vegas this winter!!!

Thank you Veronique and Michel!! We were winding down on our stash from our trip. . . but now, I think we're set for the next few months or year if I really have enough self control!

Exciting news. . . my French family is in town! My Aunt Veronique, Uncle Michel, and cousin Quentin arrived last night! It's so great to be able to see them again as soon as we did! They will be in the States for about a month to meet their new grandson, who is due at the end of the month. So today, we decided to immerse ourselves in Rockford's culture. . .ok, there isn't much . . . but what we did find was pretty fun! We headed downtown to Rockford's City Market which was a farmer's market-type event! Apparently, it goes every Friday from 3-7 (during the warmer months). Cute, quaint, and reminded me of a French marche! Tonight, we went over to Starlight Theater to see an awesome production of Phantom of the Opera. . .I have to say even though this is a smaller town, there is some real talent here!

Ever since I replaced all of the outdated light fixtures in my parents' home years back, they have assumed that I'm some sort of electrician?!! I don't mind, in fact I really like DIY projects! My parents were in need of some major curb appeal change; as in new outdoor light fixtures. The old ones as you can see were vintage, but with NO vintage appeal! So, my Mom picked out the ones she liked, and I started my quest to change all of the outdoor light fixtures. One down, three more to go! It's amazing how such a small change can make such a huge difference!

What can I say?! Freshman year of college, I was left behind while everyone else was headed off to some fun university! I had planned to go off to some school in the Midwest, but found myself completely lost with my life's direction at the beginning of my Senior year in high school. . . but that is an entirely different story. Everything ended up working out, I must say, though! I actually first met Laura, when we were both banquet waitresses at Giovanni's the summer right after high school. It wasn't until we found ourselves in some of the same classes at RVC that we became really close friends! We became really close, did some stupid stuff like kids right out of high school do, but in my opinion, turned out to be some really great 20-something women! I love this girl and consider her a GREAT friend!! There is definitely never a dull moment with her! We spent the afternoon catching up over lunch and some shopping at the good old CherryVale mall. . . geez that place has turned into a dump! Sad, but true! The only good shopping nowadays is in Chicago! **BUT most importantly, I got to meet Laura's adorable baby, Tatum! She was such a trooper and just a good baby overall! I am amazed at seeing all of my old friends become mothers! It seems to suit each and every one of them so well and they all do it so gracefully!

We made it to my home! Yes, Rockford is still home to me as much as I love my new home in Vegas! I'm so happy to be able to spend the 4th of July weekend here in my hometown. There is nothing like the 4th of July in the Midwest! It feels so patriotic here for some reason. The next couple of weeks are going to be great, being pampered by my parents! We are spoiled when we're here. My hair could really do without the humidity, though. I don't know what's worse. . . 115 and dry or 91 with 90% humidity. . . You tell me?

France Day 7: April 22nd

Paris Day 2: Last Day in France. . .

-Woke up early and grabbed some breakfast. . .Fresh fruit and chocolate croissants!

-Cruised down the Seine River by boat (highly recommend this!) and then walked along the river again to see all of the sights up close. . .

-Paid our respects at Princess Diana's Tunnel

-Toured the Jardin des Tuileries and the Louvre grounds

- Swung by the Place de la Concorde

-Gazed at the amazing details of Notre Dame (gargoyles and all!)

-Lounged in the courtyard (oldest one in Paris) of the Place des Vosges

-Grabbed the Metro (finally!) to the Statue of Liberty (yes, Paris has one too. . . it's the model that the French presented to the U.S. - you can thank them for our copy on Liberty Island!)

-Freshened up and enjoyed the most AMAZING pizza that we've ever tasted in our lives

-Attempted (3rd time) at going up the Eiffel Tower. . .WAY too many people. . .instead we strolled the grounds surrounding the Eiffel Tower at night . . .BEAUTIFUL!

-Meandered back to our hotel, grabbed a Crepe at a small street stand (can't leave Paris without devouring one), called it a night and the perfect ending to our vacation!

Voila!!! That was our trip to France! It was everything we had hoped it would be a much more! I would say that one of the best parts is how much Steven fell in love with France and European culture. Since we've been back, Steven likes to have baguettes with dinner, uses the term "Voila" when appropriate, gets disgusted at how spoiled and ungrateful we Americans can be (it's true, we really are. . .we have to have the biggest and the best, right?!) and loves watching House Hunters International (especially when it's in Europe - but he would kill me if he knew that I told you this). We are hoping to go back next summer, if everything goes as planned!

France Day 6: April 21st

Thursday morning we left the train station from St. Die for our two days in Paris! It was hard leaving though. . . I won't lie, I cried, on the train. I had to put my sunglasses on. I love my family so much and I worry about how many more times I will be able to see my grandparents in this lifetime. As we were sitting on the train waiting to leave, I also started thinking about how many good memories I have from spending my summers in France as a child and as a teen. Steven made the comment, "I can see why you love it here so much." Those words meant so much to me! It's like he finally got it! **Side note - Steven was skeptical about a vacation in Europe, but was pleasantly surprised!** As hard as it was leaving St. Die, our time in Paris was wonderful! Our hotel room was nice, nothing extravagant, but simple! All I wanted was to be able to see the Eiffel Tower from my window and that's exactly what we got! We spent the day walking past the Eiffel Tower, to the Hotel des Invalides (which holds Napoleon's tomb), back to the Eiffel Tower's grounds, all the way up to the Arc de Triomphe, and back to our hotel for dinner at a small cafe. We came to the conclusion, that we walked about 9 miles that day. . . so much for using the Metro! Our feet were killing us by the end of the day, but we were so happy to take in the sights as much as we could!

France Day 5: April 20th

Wednesday morning, my uncle took us to the Alsace region of France to see the Haut Koenigsbourg Castle, some of the small fortified Alsatian towns, and wine country. The drive was beautiful! Seriously, the pictures don't do it justice. When we were in Riquewihr, Steven kept saying "Wow, I can't believe that towns like this exist. I thought that you only found places like this in Disneyland!" Sorry Steven, but I'm thinking that Disneyland came after these 400+ year old towns! The boy is slowly being cultured. . .

A special thanks to my uncle Michel, for being the most knowledgeable and exciting tour guide! I'm pretty sure that he is one of Steven's favorite people!

Wednesday night, we all got together to say our goodbyes and to snap a few family photos. The next morning we were headed for our two days in Paris! I loved seeing my family in France and introducing them to Steven! After five years of marriage, it was about time!

France Day 4: April 19th

On Monday night, Steven encouraged me to spend the following day with my grandparents. It would give him the opportunity to get some studying done for his Biology Praxis, and would give me the opportunity to spend some quality time with my grandparents. It was very much a "win-win" situation. I started the day by going into town with Mami to the "marche aux legumes" (vegetable market), where we shopped around and stopped into some of the surrounding stores. I found some darling things! When Mami ran into someone she knew, she proudly introduced me as "my granddaughter who lives in the United States" - she seemed pretty pleased to have us there visiting! After our small shopping trip, we (Mami, Papi, and I) headed over to Cora to get some grocery shopping done and to stock up on some goodies for when we got back to the States. Something about running errands around town with my Mami, brought me back to my childhood! After our errands, we had our dejeuner over at Veronique and Michel's (my aunt and uncle) house, rested a bit, and then we (Steven and I) headed over to Mami and Papi's house for the late afternoon and evening. We spent the evening chatting with my grandparents, eating delicious food. . .including my grandma's Tarte au Citron (Lemon meringue pie - my favorite!), and doing a little more exploring around my grandparents' property. I loved every moment of that day!

France Day 3: April 18th

During our Sunday "dejeuner", my cousin Nicolas, invited us to come over to Nancy where he and his girlfriend, Julie live. Nancy is kind of the big city in the Lorraine region of France. . .it's about an hour away from St. Die by train. So Monday morning, we hopped on the train and headed over to Nancy to visit with my cousin and get a tour of the city. Nancy is known for being a big university town. Nicolas and his sister Alice, both went to school there. Since he lives there, he was able to give us an amazing tour! I think we got to see and do a little of everything while we were there! We had a wonderful lunch, saw the Place Stanislas (main square) where most of the iron is gold leafed paint (amazing!), toured some of the cathedrals and parks, stopped at a cafe (where the waiter was really rude - but the only rude French person our whole trip), and even got to do a little shopping. . . I finally got to go to Naf Naf, where I bought a darling dress! It was a great day! I have some of the most hospitable family over there! They are truly amazing people!

France Day 2: April 17th

The next day, we slept in until noon (we were still trying to adjust to the time change). We got up and were ready just in time to go over to Mami and Papi's house for le dejeuner (lunch which is also the biggest meal of the day)! My Mami is the BEST cook! She made us salad, a Quiche Lorraine, Turkey with vegetables, cheeses (of course!), and a Black Forest cake for dessert! Her cooking was just as good as I remembered it! When we first got to my grandparents' house, I took Steven around the property. . .he was amazed! To me, not much had really changed in the 11+ years since I had been there; which to me was perfect! I very much dislike change! The rest of the afternoon and evening was spent looking at old family photos and making up for lost time! Poor Steven did not understand a word that was being said, because my grandparents don't speak any English! Surprisingly, my French came back so I spent a lot of time translating between my grandparents and Steven. It seems like during this trip, Steven and I learned a lot about the role that WWII played on Saint Die. It's crazy to think that a lot of the destruction happened right here.

France Day 1: April 15th & 16th

As promised. . . I am going to document our France trip day by day!

We left the house on April 15th at around 3:45 am and didn't get to St. Die (where my Mom is from and where my relatives live) until 3:30 pm on April 16th! We were excited to be there but exhausted from all of our travels by car, plane, train, train, and car again! We were on a tight schedule. Upon arrival, we were greeted by my uncle Michel, cousin Sarah, and my Mami and Papi (my grandparents who I hadn't seen in 11 years)! When we got there, my uncle insisted that we stay up until 8:00pm that night so that we would be able to adjust to the time change. It was brutal and we were super tired. . .you can tell by the pictures. . . but my uncle was right, it helped with the jet-lag to stay up!

This last weekend was so great catching up with my old roommates! Our weekend was filled with a lot of "Remember Whens. . .", I literally laughed until my stomach hurt! We had some crazy times. . .some of you might die if you knew some of the things we did. . .I know my parents might! Living in Branbury from 2004-2005 was one of the best years of my life and shaped me to be the girl that I am today. It's also where and when I met Steven! I owe a lot of my fond memories to these ladies. . .

A Visit to Utah

As soon as our trip to France was booked, I knew that I would want to do some sort of photo album of our trip! Low and behold, a week or so after purchasing our tickets, I found a deal for a $10.00 8x8 hardcover photo book on Shutterfly through Groupon. This deal was too hard to pass up! I knew that I had a project ahead of me upon my return. . .but I knew that it would take me far less time than making my own scrapbook (I'm far too impatient for die cuts and hand-cut photo mats). After countless hours of deciding which pictures should go here and what clip art should go there; I'm happy with the results. . .

I know, I've made my photo book, yet I haven't been able to blog about our trip! It's coming, I promise. I just need figure out how I'm going to add in the video segments. . .

Simple Joys of Summer!

I'm not one to buy cheap shoes. I blame it on my mother. The French in her, insists that you only buy few nice things. In her case, the same goes for shoes. She's very classic and usually sticks to neutrals. . . I love my mother to pieces! Sometimes (more often) though, I just need a pair of bold-colored shoes and I'll usually end up paying for it. However, I found myself at Target lusting after these beauties (in turquoise) and couldn't resist the $15.00 price tag! I'm loving the combination of Turquoise and Coral right now; so I'm excited to wear my new sandals with my go-to nail polish of the summer - Tart Deco by Essie!

HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY POOKEY BEAR!

Yes, embarrassingly enough, this is what I have been calling my baby brother since he was 6 or 7 years old. . .maybe even earlier?! I like to think that he loves my pet name for him :) I can still remember the day he was born, I was 6 years old - almost 7 and I remember running into the hospital where my Dad scooped me up for a big hug and I immediately asked, "What is it, what is it?!!" Now mind you, I already had 2 brothers so this time I was banking on a sister (my Mom wanted to keep this one a surprise). My Dad's big smile turned into a slight frown when he said, "A boy". I was bummed, but I wanted to go and see the new baby regardless. I remember going into my Mom's room where she and the baby were both resting, and I went in and peeked at my new little brother. I kid you not, he was wide awake and smiled at me! I was instantly in love with my new little brother, and decided that not having a little sister was all that bad!

Side Note - That feeling of not having a little sister was eventually magnified when I realized that I never really had to share anything ever. . .but that's a whole other story about me just being a brat!

When we brought him home, he still didn't have a name and it was my final decision to name him "Christopher" I think the name still fits! And no, he's not Chris, to me he is Christopher and always will be! I love my little brother, he was always the easiest to get a long with. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE all my brothers the same, and I will defend each one of them until I am blue in the face (it could be the fact that I'm the oldest and that's what the oldest does) but Christopher and I never really had any beef growing up.

So, a while back Steven was at Costco looking for something. . .don't really remember; I wasn't there. While browsing, a lady (in her late 30s/early 40s) came up to him while he was wearing this shirt. Apparently, she started pulling/tugging/admiring his shirt, and said that she wished that she could find shirts like that for her husband. She proceeded to tell him that, of course, her husband probably wouldn't look as good in one. I might be a little biased, but I'm going to go ahead and agree with her on that one.

So, the point of my story, besides stating how cute I think my husband is. . . Ladies/Gentlemen, is that if a guy sports one of these shirts, a good pair of jeans, and maybe a well-fitted hoodie (during cooler months). . . they are good to go!

The practical side of me will state that they are easy to wash/dry, and hold their shape really well. The best part though, is that Steven gets them at wholesale because of his business license! And yes, I just made him order more :)

**In other news, today was my last day at school with the kiddos. It's been a great year! I feel so blessed to have a job in the school district. I feel like it's the right fit for me. So, I know that I said that I would post about our France trip next, but this next thing is so exciting. . . I couldn't pass up a good ol' blog op! So here it is!!!!

As you can see by my Victoria's Secret receipt, my grand total came to a whole $0.00! Yes, a free panty (ew I hate that word) and full-sized lip gloss! How does this happen might you ask? Well, Victoria's Secret was so kind to send me a card with 2 coupons inside that were magically able to be combined! One of the coupons was for a free panty (still hate that word) and the other was for $10 off of a purchase which happens to be the retail price of the lip gloss! All in all it was free! Gotta love coupons!

So, it's been a month and a few days since we've been back from our trip to France, and I'm now posting something about it. . .probably because I'm in denial that it's over! Anyways, it's super late and I'm not going to type much, just yet (I guess I'm just feeling a little guilty about neglecting this blog). Here is a little preview of what's to come!

On another note. . . I recently finished "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" for my book club that I'm in, and I can't stop thinking about how good it was! I love stories that take place in a different era. . .for some reason they are easy to romanticize. Definitely a must read!

I made an album on Facebook of all of the memorable things we've done since we've moved to Vegas. One of the best things, is our trip with the twins down to Southern California over MLK weekend. It was wonderful! Steven and I sure enjoyed our time with the girls! We swung by my grandparents' house in Thousand Oaks for a quick "Hi" and some lunch at Baja Fresh with my aunts. We then made our way down to Orange County to spend a couple of days at Knott's Berry Farm and Newport Beach!!! The rides were fun, the ocean was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the weather was awesome!!!

The time has finally come! Steven and I will be departing on April 15, 2011 for Paris, France. We officially booked our tickets last night and I couldn't be any happier/excited/ecstatic/giddy/grateful. After 5 years + of marriage, I get to introduce Steven to the other half of who makes me. . . me! I can't wait to introduce him to my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins! The plan is to fly into Paris and take the TGV to St. Die, where we will spend 5 days visiting with family and discovering/touring the northeastern region of France. We'll jump back on the TGV and spend our final 2 days living "la vie Parisienne"! I can't wait to immerse myself in the culture!

Words really can't even begin to describe the excitement I have to be able to go back and see my family! This is what I look forward to the most, and I plan on doing a TON of documenting with video and pictures. This to me is priceless and something I can hold onto forever. It's been a long 11 years since I've been back, and I just have so much gratitude to have this opportunity.

Halloween Weekend

This year, Steven's mom suggested that we head up to St. George for Tuacahn's production of "Thriller". I'm so glad that we did! The show was fantastic! It kind of made me want to take up Irish dancing! An added bonus was that my brother Shane was in town to join us in on the festivities!

We started out the evening with some BBQ at Troy's. It was delicious!

The next morning we took Shane to Brigham Young's summer home. Steven took me there last year, so I really wanted Shane to be able to experience it as well. I love church historical sites for all of their beauty and for the knowledge that comes from them!

I definitely had my first "You're not in Utah Anymore" moment yesterday. I had to become CPR certified for a job that I am applying for within the Clark County school district, and as I was leaving the sweet woman's house, I leaned over to put my shoes on. Low rise jeans = TMI (I don't mean in a plumber's crack sort of way). The woman proceeds to ask me "Do you wear body shapers?" Oh gosh, no one would ever ask me this in Utah! All I could say was "Uh no, but I probably should" She then says to me "Oh you can tell me that it's none of my business; I was just wondering because I wear them". So my question out there to all of you is besides wearing high-waisted mom jeans, "What is the right answer to a perfect stranger?!" I was caught off-guard, but did have a good laugh once I processed what had happened!

The Move.

For those of you who didn't know. . .we moved here! I'm sure most of you are aware via Facebook, however, we are indeed living in Steven's homeland! It's crazy to think that Steven and I spent the last 6.5 years living in Utah (married and unmarried), but it was time to make the move! Don't get me wrong, Utah was beautiful, but not what Steven and I grew up with! Many great friends will be missed, though! For now, we are in a transition period, i.e. living in Steven's grandparents' home. Poor Maxine and Buel have had different pairs of Dodsons living in and out of their home for the last 3 years! Jobs, career choices, and family are definitely up in the air. . but we do feel like we made the right move!

Over Columbus Day weekend, we took a quick trip home to Illinois! It was perfect but not long enough! Our weekend consisted of pedicures (my Mom and I), Edward's Apple Orchard, dinner at Shogun, hanging out by the warm fire, and enjoying the Fall weather in general. Illinois is beautiful in the Fall, although it was a little too cold for this early in the season. Here are a few pictures of my family at Edward's Apple Orchard. . .my favorite place to be in the Fall!

Steven LOVES the Swedish pancakes at Stockholm Inn in Rockford. They have the best breakfast hands down. . . ever. So my mom sent me a swedish pancake recipe that we have made four times in the last 2 weeks. Needless to say. . . we are addicted! It's not exactly Stockholm Inn but is still so good! So being the nice person that I am, I am going to share the recipe! Here is the email that she sent me. . .

Here is the Swedish Pancakes recipe:

3/4 cup sifted flour
1 Tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt (optional)
3 eggs
1 1/4 cup milk
2 Tbsp salad oil

Sift dry ingredients. Combine beaten eggs, milk and salad oil. Add to dry ingredients, stirring until smooth. Pour batter a tablespoon at a time on hot griddle, tilting griddle to make a very thin cake. Serve with melted butter sprinkled with sugar, and hot lingonberry or blueberry sauce.

Tonight we went to Cafe Rio with Carlie, Spencer, and Brayden (their almost 3 year old). We got our food, chit-chatted, and the topic of Carlie's flat tire came up. Conversation is as follows. . .

Me: "Carlie, I heard you got a flat tire last night."

Carlie: "Yeah, I did. . . "

Brayden: "Yeah my mom got a flat tire. . ."

Steven (to Brayden): "She did?!"

Stephanie (to Brayden): "How did that happen?"

Brayden (in all seriousness; as serious can be): "Umm, well she broke the car because girls don't know how to drive."

Gee. . . I wonder where he got that from?!! Spencer!!!!

Yay! So I thought I would finally post about this! I know, it's late but I said I would catch up on everything we've been up to! I finally got my degree in Behavioral Science (emphasis in Psychology). Graduation was wonderful! My parents flew out for the weekend and we had a nice dinner up at the Foundry Grill in Sundance! Delicious!

Actually, I was literally in tears, not over this scenario (although it would be ideal); but because summer reminds me of the summer vacations I used to spend in France with my French relatives. I would become totally absorbed in the culture. Quite literally, I would leave my U.S. citizenship in the States and live as my relatives do. The older I get, the more I realize how lucky I was! It's hard to grow up because you have responsibilities that don't allow you to get up and go for months on end like you did as a kid and even a teenager! I haven't been able to go back since 2000 but, hopefully my mom and I will be able to take a trip next summer and see our loved ones and marvel at that beautiful country! I know most of you probably think French people are rude. . .and yes for the most part they are IF you don't try and appreciate what they have to offer! I've been having these dreams that my grandma is sad that she hasn't seen me; it kills me that it's been so long!

This last weekend was our late Christmas party for my YHA job (girls' home)! They took us tubing at Soldier Hollow! There were some extra tickets so I got to bring Steven and my brother Christopher! It was so fun! I was scared that I would kill myself because of my past experiences with winter sports but I survived with no broken bones!

So I've been a really bad blogger! I've heard it from a few of my friends; I know I've been terrible but December was a crazy month! The first weekend Steven turned 25! Yay, he's finally caught up to me! We celebrated by having some friends over that night and had Costco cake and ice cream! Thanks to all who came! We enjoyed having everyone there!

The next couple of weeks I worked really hard to finish up my last few classes! I had my final research course that took up a lot of my time but it's over! They're done, what a relief! I have one online course through BYU left to finish and I will officially get my diploma this Spring!

On the 19th of December we left for Illinois to freezing cold weather! I had forgotten how chilly IL winters are! My Vegas husband couldn't get over it, but it really did get better after the first few days! We had a great time! We had a wonderful Christmas with my family and go to do some fun stuff! Steven and I drove down to Bloomington to visit with Stephanie (my best friend from high school) and her husband Adam. We love them! We went to Outback for dinner and went back to their place for a few games of Kanasta; they have officially become addicted! Stephanie is pregnant with their first baby and it was so fun to see her and her baby bump in person! The woman looks amazing!

We got to go to to my brother's Eagle Court of Honor; he finished his project this last summer making bat boxes for the local state park! It was neat to see him give his little speech at the Eagle ceremony, he has grown up so much! P.S.-He is currently living in Orem, going to school, is super cute, and is single so if you know anyone we could set him up with that would be so fun! OMG he'd kill me if he knew that I was writing this! Ha!

So on the 30th of December we all headed back to Utah. Steven, my mom, and I all flew back while my brother Christopher, my brother Shane, and my dad drove the 20 hour drive to Utah so that Christopher could have his car out here! My mom and I got to do a lot of fun stuff together just us girls! It was great; we went to the Shops at Gardner Village, went to the Shade store, ran tons of errands and saw the movie Australia! It was so fun! I love my mom!

So that basically sums up our December! Sorry I don't have many pictures of Christmas in Illinois, we left our camera plugged into the charger; dumb!

Steven and I have been married for 3 years today! I can't believe how time sure does fly! Being married isn't always easy as most of you know! We've definately had some bumps along the way, but somehow we've managed to work them out and here we are today! We kind of counted Disneyland as our anniversary present to each other, so tonight we grabbed a bite to eat at Costa Vida (obviously nothing special), and I was reminded of one of my most favorite things about Steven. . . he makes me laugh a lot!!! I look forward to the many years and many adventures to come!!!

Best News Ever!!!!

My Dad passed his Boards!!!! This has been twelve years overdue!!!! The reason he really, really needed to pass this year was that if he didn't, he would have lost all of his privileges at Swedish American Hospital. This morning he called me with the great news and all I could say was "shut up, for real?" "Are you really serious?" He had to tell me like three times before I actually believed him! Anyways, this is the greatest news that my family has had in the longest time! I love my Dad, he works very hard at what he does and never complains and is very deserving of this! It's been a long, long road but is finally over because he doesn't have to take them ever again! I am convinced that everyone's prayers and support helped a ton!

Our Disneyland Trip!

Our Disneyland trip was so much fun! Seriously, it was so hard to stop smiling, although you can't really tell from Steven's expressions in the pictures! I promise he had fun; he even talked about making plans for next year! We went on a ton of rides, ate a lot of food, and walked until our feet were killing us! We had a great time with Steven's family! The cutest part was when Zakary, Carson's little boy was holding Steven's hand so that he wouldn't get lost and said "I bet people think that we're friends". And then asked "Well are we friends? "Can I call you my buddy?" "How about Dude?" So Steven was dude for the Disneyland trip! It was really cute! Steven mentioned to me at one point how everyone in Disneyland was so nice and so happy! I guess what they say is true it's the "Happiest Place on Earth"!

Yes!!! We have plans for Halloween this year, and you guessed it! DISNEYLAND! We leave Thursday the 30th for Long Beach and will meet Steven's mom, Carson (her husband), and Steven's sisters: Megan, Kristen, and Kaylen!! We'll be there Friday and Saturday and will go back home Sunday; we are super excited! We went back and forth on whether or not we should spend the money on one weekend but like Steven's mom said, "You can't put a price on family memories" so with that said and the fact that the twins (Kristen and Kaylen) are growing up so fast, we thought we would enjoy a weekend at Disneyland!!! Can't wait!!!

So I have been dying to get Bear a cute Coach collar because I want her to be a girly-girl. . .I know I'm obsessed with her!!! The only problem is that they are pricey, so when we were down in Vegas at the outlets I stopped in the Coach store and they had dog collars for a third of the price!!! My 25th birthday was last Friday, yes I am getting old. . . I keep telling Steven that my biological clock is ticking! I'm kidding, I really don't feel my age in fact sometimes I feel like my young self playing in the grown-up world. . . haha enough of that! Anyways, we decided to take a much-needed break down to Vegas for four days and it was great! The first night we got a room at Mandalay Bay so that we could enjoy the benefits of the pool area where Steven used to lifeguard; it was so much fun! The weather was perfect, it was in the mid-80s and did not feel like fall weather was anywhere near! The rest of the weekend we spent visiting Steven's family, mini-putting at Angel Park, Art in the Park in Boulder City, shopping at the Primm Outlets, eating too much food, and just having tons of fun!!! We brought Bear down to Vegas so that she could play with her good friend Sadie (Meredythe and Steven's Dad's dog) and they spent all four days outside playing together! Poor Bear is used to living indoors and being pampered (she sleeps in our bed) but she was so filthy that we left her outside, anyways to make a long story short. . .she was ready to go home after four days of non-stop outdoors/playing!!! Vegas was great!!! Thank you Steven for being the super fun person that you are and taking a much-needed break with me!!!! I love you!!!!

Steven's Elk!

Well, Steven finally got his Elk! I didn't think he could do it, does that make me sound like a bad wife?!! This is his second year of bow-hunting and last year he didn't have any luck, ok I sound really bad. . . but it seems really hard to actually shoot one! I think he had some mixed feelings about the whole experience, some were sad. . . I didn't want details because I don't like hunting four-legged animals and I probably would have cried if I had to hear about it's pain and suffering! The animal was huge, it was 400+ pounds so he had his cousin Spencer, friend Nate, and Nate's dad go back and help him load up the animal! I don't have any pictures of Steven with his elk, because I just don't like to see that or think of it, but I took some pictures of Steven cutting up the meat after it was no longer recognizable as a four-legged creature!

The weekend after I got home from Fargo, Steven and I noticed some swelling around Bear's eyes. I was a little concerned, but it wasn't until about ten minutes later that her nose began to swell up like a mis-shapen small pumpkin (does that even make any sense?!!!) I freaked out and had Steven take us to the vet. I had my suspicions that she got stung by a bee and that we would need to give her some Benadryl, but I didn't know how much and if there was anything else wrong with her!!! Sure enough, the vet said she had been stung by either a bee or a wasp and that we needed to give her two Benadryl. We got home, followed the doctors orders, and she was out for the day! I had to get some pictures, poor little girl! It was even worse in person! I know she's just a dog, but she has definately kept us on our toes!!!

On August 13th I headed out to Fargo, North Dakota for my cousin Angela's wedding! I got to spend a couple of days with her and the other bridesmaids doing the final touches for her big day! I also got to finally meet Travis! They had been dating for over two years but I was never able to meet him until I flew out for the wedding. . . I must say I think he is a wonderful husband for my cousin!! They are so in love and very happy together; I can't wait to see what exciting things they get to experience together throughout the years! The wedding was great I finally got to see my mom and two of my three brothers after 11 months!!! I know too long! We really didn't get to spend much time together, so I guess we will have to head back to Illinois soon. . . I miss them too much! It was good seeing my extended family as well, we really only get to see each other about once a year, so it was really fun to see them as well!
Weddings always get me so choked up, during the wedding ceremony the Pastor said many words of encouragement that I thought were really beautiful! My cute little grandpa read a scripture and recited the sonnet by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, the one that starts with "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. . ." It is a special poem for my grandma and grandpa, it goes way back and so I was so touched! It made me think that many years ago, before any of us (family) were around my grandparents were in that same point in their lives making such a beautiful commitment to each other and now many of us are doing the same! I know I'm a hopeless romantic! Steven wasn't able to be there with me, but I thought about how much I love him and how exciting our wedding day was and how it marked the beginning of our lives together!
I am so happy for Angela and Travis!!! Angela was beaming all day long so I know her day was perfect and just the way she had hoped for it to be! Congrats to you both, I love you guys!
